HC Deb 15 July 1936 vol 314 c2026
20. Mr. MARKHAM

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he is aware that Mr. William Robert Lamb, of Beeston, Notts, has recently been sentenced to 17 years' imprisonment at Barcelona; and whether the British Consul there has been instructed to assist him with legal aid if required for an appeal?

Mr. EDEN

I have no information on this point other than that which has appeared in the Press, but I have called for a report from His Majesty's Consul-General at Barcelona. As regards the second part of the question, I have inquired whether the prisoner is represented by a competent lawyer and on receipt of a reply I will gladly communicate further with my hon. Friend.
