35 and 36. Mr. ANDERSONasked the President of the Board of Trade (1) whether he will state the new industries established in the Special Areas, with each area shown separately, during the 12 months ended June, 1936; the nature of such industries; and the total number of people employed;
(2) whether he will state the new industries established in Great Britain, the nature of these industries, and the total number of persons employed, respectively, luring the 12 months ended June, 1936; where the industries have been established; and what action, if any, was taken to secure these industries being established in the Special Areas?
§ Mr. RUNCIMANThe Survey of Industrial Development is compiled in respect of calendar years only, and I regret that no information is available for the year ended June, 1936. The survey for the year 1935 will be published shortly. The commissioners for the Special Areas and the Government Departments concerned have made every endeavour to influence the establishment of new enterprises in the Special Areas, but it would be impossible to give full particulars within the limits of an answer to a Parliamentary question.
§ Mr. BATEYHas the commissioner succeeded in establishing any new industries in the distressed areas in the county of Durham?
§ Mr. RUNCIMANI could not reply to that question without notice.
Mr. ANDERSONWill the right hon. Gentleman be able to give this information during the discussion on the Board of Trade Vote to-morrow?
