HC Deb 14 July 1936 vol 314 cc1862-3
43. Sir JOHN WARDLAW-MILNE

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is aware of the danger of loss of trade in India to fishing tackle manufacturers in this country owing to the dropping of the Ottawa pact agreement; and what action the Government are taking to secure the advantages previously existing?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

The question of opening negotiations for a new agreement is at present under discussion between the two Governments. The interests of fishing tackle and other manufacturers in this country will be borne in mind.

Sir J. WARDLAW-MILNE

Is the right hon. Gentleman fully seized of the importance of continuity in this matter, and therefore the urgency of having these negotiations brought to a successful termination without delay, as orders are now being placed for a period beyond that of the Ottawa pact agreement?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

My hon. Friend asked me for particulars with regard to fishing tackle. I can only say that that is being included with the other commodities which we are discussing.
