HC Deb 14 July 1936 vol 314 c1845
10. Mr. N. MACLEAN

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether the two new fishery cruisers have proved successful; and whether he is now in a position to state when the third cruiser will be built and so complete the programme of three new fishery cruisers announced by him some time ago?

The SECRETARY of STATE for SCOTLAND (Sir Godfrey Collins)

I am glad to say that the two new fishery cruisers are proving successful in service. Plans and specifications of the third cruiser are in active preparation, and I hope building will begin in October.

Mr. MACLEAN

Have the difficulties in design which had to be abandoned last year been overcome, and have plans now been made which will make them more successful?

Sir G. COLLINS

That is correct.

Mr. HENDERSON STEWART

Is the right hon. Gentleman satisfied that these new vessels have reduced illegal trawling?

Sir G. COLLINS

They are more successful for the purpose in view.
