At 22nd June, 1936, there were 1,259 persons on the registers of the Pontefract Employment Exchange with applications authorised for unemployment allowances. In the week ended 26th June, 1936, the number of payments according to the Unemployment Assistance Regulations was 553 and the number according to transitional payments practice was 708.
