HC Deb 13 July 1936 vol 314 cc1658-9
43. Miss WARD

asked the Minister of Health, whether, in view of the volume of work entailed in the operation of the Overcrowding Act, he is satisfied that local authorities, particularly urban and rural councils, have sufficient expert staff to carry out the work expeditiously?

Sir K. WOOD

I presume that my hon. Friend has in mind the work which has to be carried out before 1st January next in those areas where that date has been fixed as the appointed day from which the overcrowding provisions will operate. I have no reason to suppose that the local authorities concerned will experience any insuperable difficulties in completing that work.

Miss WARD

Will the right hon. Gentleman make inquiries of some local authorities to find out whether they hold the same view as the right hon. Gentleman? I understand that some are a little apprehensive on this point.

Sir K. WOOD

I think the best course would be for the hon. Member to send me any information she has, and I will examine it.
