HC Deb 13 July 1936 vol 314 cc1671-2
3. Sir REGINALD CRADDOCK

asked the Under-Secretary of State for India whether he is aware of the shortage of quinine purchased by the Provincial Governments in India from the Government of India supplies, on account of which the Government of India were obliged to sell their surplus stocks at less than cost price, while the amount of quinine available in the Provinces was inadequate to the requirements of the country for coping with malaria; and what steps have been taken to remedy the deficiency of the supplies of quinine available in the various Provinces?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for INDIA (Mr. Butler)

I have no very recent information and will ask for a report. My hon. Friend is no doubt aware that last year the Government of India gave 45,000 lbs. of quinine to Provincial Governments for free distribution.
