§ Mr. LLOYDUnder the Police Regulations, appointments to the post of chief officer of police are subject to the approval of the Secretary of State. Apart from this, my Department is concerned with appointments and promotions in county and borough police forces only so far as is necessary to ensure compliance with the general provisions of the Regulations.
