HC Deb 06 July 1936 vol 314 cc836-7
12. Mr. THURTLE

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he has received any reply to his representations to the Italian Government regarding the broadcasts in Arabic from Bari, which contained defamatory references to British troops?

Mr. EDEN

I would refer the hon. Member to the reply given by my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for the Colonies to the hon. Member for Doncaster (Mr. Short) on Wednesday last.

Mr. THURTLE

May I take it that the Foreign Secretary is pressing the Italian Government energetically on this point?

Mr. EDEN

No, Sir; the reply said that we have no information that the broadcasts from Bari have contained defamatory references to British troops.

Captain CAZALET

Is it not a fact that these broadcasts have now ceased?
