HC Deb 06 July 1936 vol 314 cc848-9
48. Mr. THURTLE

asked tile President of the Board of Education whether he will send a circular to education authorities drawing their attention to the necessity of observing the letter and spirit of the law in regard to what is known as the Cowper-Temple Clause?

Mr. STANLEY

The provisions of the Cowper-Temple Clause are so well known and understood that I see no need for adopting the course suggested by the hon. Member.

Mr. THURTLE

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that the spokesman for the Government in another place made remarks which were construed as meaning that the Department has connived at breaches of this kind?

Mr. STANLEY

No, I am not aware of that.
