HC Deb 01 July 1936 vol 314 cc410-1
74. Mr. SHORT

asked the President of the Board of Education whether he is aware that many Doncaster children have to attend secondary schools situated outside Doncaster; to what extent this is due to a proportion of places being allocated to the West Riding council; and will he urge the council to provide adequate accommodation for its own students?

The PRESIDENT of the BOARD of EDUCATION (Mr. Oliver Stanley)

I am aware that a few Doncaster children are attending secondary schools outside Doncaster, but I am not aware of the circumstances in which they are doing so. The board have already approved plans for a now secondary school to be provided by the West Riding authority at Adwick-le-Street, on completion of which it is anticipated that there will be a very considerable reduction in the number of pupils from the West Riding area attending the secondary schools in Doncaster.
