HC Deb 01 July 1936 vol 314 cc409-10
71. Mr. SANDYS

asked the Minister of Health to what extent his inquiries have established the existence of malnutrition in the United Kingdom?

Sir K. WOOD

So far as England and Wales are concerned, I would refer my hon. Friend to the recent annual reports of the Chief Medical Officer of my Department and of the Board of Education. As regards Scotland, perhaps my bon. Friend will address a question to the Secretary of State.

Mr. SANDYS

Can my right hon. Friend tell us clearly whether the Government accept the view that malnutrition does exist on a considerable scale, and also whether the Government regard the maintenance of a healthy standard of feeding as a national responsibility?

Sir K. WOOD

That is a question which I should like to see on the Paper; and I should also like to see a good definition of malnutrition.
