HC Deb 26 February 1936 vol 309 cc430-1
13. Vice-Admiral TAYLOR

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Admiralty the date of the appointment of the Commander-in-Chief in the Mediterranean and the date of the expiration of this appointment?

Lord STANLEY

Admiral Sir W. W. Fisher was appointed Commander-in-Chief, Mediterranean, 30th September, 1932. His period of command will terminate shortly.

Vice-Admiral TAYLOR

Is it not a fact that his successor was appointed some months ago but has not taken up the appointment because he is attached to the Staff, and, in view of the fact that that is rather unfair on the other senior officers in the Service, could we have any information as to how long that is likely to continue?

Lord STANLEY

I have already answered the hon. and gallant Member's question.

Vice-Admiral TAYLOR

Can no information be given as to how long that state of affairs is likely to continue?

Lord STANLEY

I said it would terminate shortly.
