HC Deb 15 December 1936 vol 318 c2250
7. Mr. AMMON

asked the Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs whether, seeing that there is a Native Reserve Fund in Southern Rhodesia, he is prepared to ask the Government of Southern Rhodesia to consider the advisability of publishing the audited accounts of this fund?

Mr. M. MacDONALD

I understand that the practice is for the accounts of the fund to be laid on the Table of the Southern Rhodesia House of Assembly, though they would not in the ordinary course be printed except by order of the House.

Mr. AMMON

Should not there be some means of ascertaining exactly how this fund stands?

Mr. MacDONALD

That information is at the disposal of members of the Legislature of Southern Rhodesia when the information is laid on the Table. I will take up with the Governor the question of whether it can automatically be published without the special order of the local Legislature.

Mr. MACQUISTEN

Is not the Government of Southern Rhodesia pretty well that of an independent State, and why should we be overhauling it?
