§ 34. Mr. BOOTHBYasked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he is satisfied that the statutory powers of the Herring Industry Board are adequate for the proper discharge of its functions?
§ Mr. ELLIOTI have no grounds for supposing that the Herring Industry Board have hitherto been hampered by lack of powers. I understand, however, that the Board are giving close consideration to the question whether their existing powers are sufficient for dealing with future developments of the industry.
§ Mr. BOOTHBYIf the Board come to the conclusion that more powers are necessary, will the right hon. Gentleman be prepared to introduce the necessary legislation?
§ Mr. ELLIOTThat is a hypothetical question, but I will give the matter sympathetic consideration.
