17. Mr. WINDSOR

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether, in view of the difficulties of candidates sitting for the Mercantile Marine examinations in having to travel long distances for such examinations, he will arrange for Hull to be made an examination centre?

15. Mr. LAW

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he will consider the advisability of arranging for examinations of candidates wishing to enter the Mercantile Marine to he held at Hull?

16. Mr. MUFF

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is in a position to reinstate Hull as a centre for examinations for the granting of certificates to candidates for the Mercantile Marine?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

The question whether it is desirable that additional examination centres should be opened has been very carefully considered and arrangements will be made for examinations to be held at Hull and at Leith, in addition to London, Liverpool, Newcastle, Cardiff, Glasgow and Belfast as at present. The date of the re-opening of these centres will be fixed so as to avoid any interference with the safety work of the Board of Trade Surveyors.
