HC Deb 10 December 1936 vol 318 cc2154-5
30. Mr. ROSTRON DUCKWORTH

asked the Minister of Health whether, during the last year for which statistics are available, any cases have been brought to his notice in which the housing needs of the working-class population are not being wholly met by the activities of private enterprise; whether in these cases the local authorities have been asked to provide the required houses themselves; and whether he can give the names of such authorities?

Sir K. WOOD

Yes, Sir, and I have during the past year sanctioned loans for the erection of some 14,000 houses in the circumstances mentioned by my hon. Friend. I will send him a list of the authorities concerned.

Mr. LEVY

Is the Minister satisfied that adequate water supplies are being passed on the plans, as part of the duty of the local authorities?

Sir K. WOOD

That is another matter. If my hon. Friend will put down a question upon it, I will answer it.
