HC Deb 08 December 1936 vol 318 c1812
19. Mr. SHINWELL

asked the Secretary of State for War whether the accounts of the Navy, Army and Air Force Institutes are published, and whether they can be made available to hon. Members?

The SECRETARY of STATE for WAR (Mr. Duff Cooper)

In accordance with the provisions of the Companies Acts, under which the Navy, Army and Air Force Institutes is by guarantee incorporated, a copy of the annual report is forwarded to the Registrar of Companies and is available for inspection by the public at Somerset House. In addition, the annual report and balance sheet of the corporation is promulgated in official instructions issued by the Service Departments and copies are displayed in all institutes at home and abroad. Apart from this the accounts are not expressly made available to the general public, but if there were any general desire on the part of the House to see the accounts I could arrange to have a copy placed in the Library.

Mr. SHINWELL

Will the right hon. Gentleman take into consideration the fact that these Services are very much interested in the transactions of this organisation, and in view of that will he have their interests in mind?
