asked the hon. and gallant Member for Barkston Ash, as representing the Forestry Commissioners, how many workers have been provided with full-time and temporary employment, respectively, by the commissioners in the Highlands and Islands of Scotland during the last 12 months; and how many workers were displaced from their normal employment during the same period owing to the taking of land for tree planting?

During the last 12 months the number of Forestry Commission workers in the Highlands and Islands of Scotland has varied from a minimum of 531 to a maximum of 653. During the same period two workers were displaced.
