HC Deb 08 December 1936 vol 318 c1807
7. Sir JOHN WARDLAW-MILNE

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether his attention has been drawn to the unsatisfactory conditions in Denmark in connection with the issuing of licences for the importation of British carpets; and whether, in view of the imports into that country of carpets from Germany, he is taking steps to bring pressure on the Danish Government to stop the restrictions at present in force against British production

Captain WALLACE

As a result of the Supplementary Commercial Agreement of 19th June, additional licences have been issued for the import of United Kingdom carpets into Denmark. The value of the exports of United Kingdom carpets to Denmark in the six months, May to October this year, was £61,000, as compared with £45,000 in the corresponding period of 1935.

Sir J. WARDLAW-MILNE

Is it not correct that that figure bears a very small proportion to the total?

Captain WALLACE

That is quite a different question.
