HC Deb 30 April 1936 vol 311 c1081
56. Mr. GRAHAM WHITE

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether he can make any statement with regard to the efforts being made to eradicate the warble fly?

The MINISTER of AGRICULTURE (Mr. Elliot)

An Order applicable to the whole of Great Britain was made on 31st January, 1936, and widely promulgated, requiring the periodical treatment of cattle infested with the warble fly maggot during the period from March to June in each year, when the maggots are ripe for destruction. Similar Orders were made by the Governments of Northern Ireland and the Irish Free State. The Orders require the destruction of the maggots either by the removal of the maggots from the back of the cattle by mechanical means or by dressing the cattle at monthly intervals with a prescribed derris preparation. No estimate can be made as to the beneficial effects of the Order until after the warble season of 1937.
