HC Deb 27 April 1936 vol 311 c559
58. Mr. REMER

asked the Minister of Transport what is the present position as to the restriction of speed on roads in the city of Birmingham?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the MINISTRY of TRANSPORT (Captain Austin Hudson)

On 25th March my right hon. Friend gave formal notice of his intention to remove the restrictions from certain roads in Birmingham. The council have exercised their right to make formal representations against this. Under the Act a further inquiry must now be held and this has been fixed for 19th May.

59. Mr. REMER

asked the Minister of Transport the result of his representations to the Warwickshire County Council as to the restrictions placed under the 30-mile-speed limit on the main Coventry-Birmingham road at Meriden?

Captain HUDSON

The Warwickshire County Council have not accepted my right hon. Friend's suggestion that the 30-mile-per-hour speed limit should be removed from a length of the Coventry-Birmingham road at Meriden and from certain other roads in the county. He is therefore, arranging for a local inquiry.
