HC Deb 27 April 1936 vol 311 cc550-1
46. Mr. AMMON

asked the Prime Minister whether the Secretary of State for War expressed the policy of His Majesty's Government respecting pacifist propaganda in his speech delivered at the Free Trade Hall, Manchester, on 20th April?

The PRIME MINISTER (Mr. Baldwin)

I understand from my right hon. Friend that he did not express any policy with regard to this matter, but merely deplored the activities of those who discourage recruiting at the present time.

Mr. AMMON

Is the right hon. Gentleman not aware that the Secretary of State for War called for disciplinary action against certain clergy, and is it the intention of the Government to follow Germany in the matter of the treatment of religious organisations?

The PRIME MINISTER

I believe that my right hon. Friend addressed some questions to the Churches, and I think I would rather await their reply.
