HC Deb 27 April 1936 vol 311 cc546-7
31. Mr. CLUSE

asked the Postmaster-General whether he is aware of the anxiety created among subscribers to relay exchanges as to the effect of the proposals of the Ullswater Report on that service; and whether he can give an assurance that this service will not be worsened or subscriptions increased by the Post Office taking over the relay exchanges?

Major TRYON

The Government are at present considering the report of the Ullswater Committee, and I am not in a position to make any statement on the subject.

Captain PLUGGE

In view of the fact that listeners constitute the body most interested in this matter will the Minister give an undertaking to this House that listeners and licence-payers will be consulted before he puts into effect any proposals of the Ullswater Committee?

Major TRYON

I am anxious to hear the views of the House of Commons itself.

Mr. ALEXANDER

Will the Minister take into consideration the very high profits that are now being made by relay companies?
