HC Deb 23 April 1936 vol 311 cc286-7
5. Mr. DAY

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department the number of permits for street collections and flag days that were issued for the 12 months ended to the last convenient date, giving the number, separately, for local collections; whether all applications are still scrutinised by the advisory com- mittee on street collections; and have this committee any power to discriminate between bona fide charities and other bodies?

The SECRETARY of STATE for the HOME DEPARTMENT (Sir John Simon)

I presume that the question relates to the Metropolitan Police District. During 1935 the Commissioner of Police granted permission for 136 street collections within that area, of which 114 were local collections. On the second and third points the answer is in the affirmative.

Mr. DAY

Were these permits granted for collections in the same neighbourhood for the same purpose?
