Mr. ATTLEE

May I ask the Prime Minister what is the business for next week?

The PRIME MINISTER

Wednesday: It is proposed to move Mr. Speaker out of the Chair on going into Committee of Supply on the Civil and Revenue Departments Estimates, and to consider Class VII, Votes 3 and 8, which relate to Buildings.

Thursday: Second Reading of the Midwives Bill and Committee stage of the necessary Money Resolution.

Friday: Consideration of Private Members' Bills.

On any day, if there is time, other Orders will be taken.

Mr. ATTLEE

May I ask you, Mr. Speaker, whether you can give any guidance to the House in regard to next Wednesday's business, and as to whether you intend to call the next Amendment in the order of the Ballot?

Mr. SPEAKER

It is my intention on Wednesday, when the House moves me out of the Chair to go into Committee of Supply on the Civil Estimates, to call upon the hon. Member for Yardley (Mr. Salt), whose name came second in the Ballot to move his Amendment— That, having regard to the number of road accidents that occur after dark and to the desirability of affording adequate illumination for the convenience and safety of the public and for the prevention of crime, it is expedient that the lighting of highways should be dealt with on a national basis.
