HC Deb 23 April 1936 vol 311 cc300-1
37. Mr. GRAHAM WHITE

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what are the regulations, if any, governing the importation of arms into Palestine?

The SECRETARY of STATE for the COLONIES (Mr. J. H. Thomas)

No firearms or ammunition may be imported into Palestine except on a non-transferable permit from a district commissioner who may at his discretion refuse its issue. The penalty for evasion is a fine of £100 or a maximum term of imprisonment of one year or both. Smooth-bore shot guns may be imported through the parcel post at certain post offices on production of a valid licence in respect of each gun.

Colonel WEDGWOOD

Is the Secretary of State aware that the weapon used by the Arabs is not the gun or the revolver but the knife; and will he take steps to secure the disappearance of this form of weapon?

Mr. J. H. THOMAS

I have no experience of the knife, but I will make inquiries.
