35. Mr. LEWIS

asked the Under-Secretary of State for Air whether, under the provisions of the Air Transport (Subsidy Agreements) Act, 1930, any contract has been entered into to pay a subsidy, or any subsidy has been already paid, to British Airways in respect of a service between this country and Scandinavia?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for AIR (Sir Philip Sassoon)

As intimated in the Memorandum (Cmd. 5111) accompanying the Air Estimates for 1936 and mentioned in my speech introducing Air Estimates, it is intended to entrust operation of regular services to Scandinavia to British Airways, Limited, and a White Paper containing detailed proposals will be laid before Parliament at an early date. Meantime the company are carrying out a series of experimental flights and are receiving payments on a provisional basis in respect of those flights.
