HC Deb 08 April 1936 vol 310 c2754
14. Lieut. - Commander FLETCHER

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Admiralty whether he will make a statement concerning the use of superheated steam in His Majesty's ships; and whether the system has been a success or whether it was in any way responsible for the failure of His Majesty's ship "Amphion" to complete her trials?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the ADMIRALTY (Lord Stanley)

In accordance with modern practice, superheated steam has been used in His Majesty's ships since 1927. It has contributed in no small degree to the economy and efficiency of the machinery installations. Its adoption has been entirely successful and was in no way responsible for the defects that have occurred in His Majesty's ship "Amphion."
