HC Deb 08 April 1936 vol 310 c2764
83. Mr. E. J. WILLIAMS

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he will take steps to ensure that no further supplies of nickel are exported from this country to Germany, in order to prevent its use by Germany for making munitions?

Captain EUAN WALLACE (Secretary, Department of Overseas Trade)

No, Sir. Nickel has important uses in many industries, and the action suggested would be an unjustifiable interference with trade.

Mr. WILLIAMS

Does not the Minister appreciate that this is a very serious matter, and may I ask him to look into it again, because it may have very serious repercussions for this country?
