§ 20. Captain PETER MACDONALDasked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Admiralty whether any estimate has been made of the annual saving which will result from the provisions of the London Naval Treaty of 1936?
Lord STANLEYI regret that it is impossible to make any statement of saving such as my hon. and gallant Friend suggests. In order to make such an estimate, it would be necessary to take into account not only the building programmes to be undertaken during the whole period of the Treaty but also the possible large increase in the sizes of the ships which would have been built if the Treaty had not been made.
