HC Deb 08 April 1936 vol 310 c2770
82. Mr. DONNER

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether, in view of the small reserve of wheat stored in this country at the present time of international uncertainty, due to the lack of premium in forward wheat, he will investigate the desirability of taking steps to lay before the Canadian Wheat Board the proposal that the board should transfer part of its stored supplies to this country, with the assistance of His Majesty's Government in the United Kingdom in meeting the small extra cost of storage?

Dr. BURGIN

I have taken note of my hon. Friend's suggestion.

Mr. DONNER

Will the Minister be so good as to make arrangements to be present to-morrow, when it is hoped to raise the whole question?

Dr. BURGIN

I think that is very possible.

Mr. GRAHAM WHITE

Is it not the case that the normal supplies of wheat in this country will be raised by natural reasons as soon as navigation on the St. Lawrence is open for traffic, as is always the case at this time of the year?
