HC Deb 08 April 1936 vol 310 cc2779-80
84. Mr. THORNE

asked the President of the Board of Education the number of school children who are due to leave London schools next week; the number for the whole of the country; and whether his Department have any information, through school employment committees, of the prospects of employment for these children?

The PRESIDENT of the BOARD of EDUCATION (Mr. Oliver Stanley)

I regret that I have no figures available regarding the number of school children due to leave the schools next week either in London or the country as a whole. I understand that, generally speaking, the prospects of employment in London are good, bat if the hon. Member wishes to have detailed information on this subject, perhaps he would address a question to my right hon. Friend the Minister of Labour.

Mr. THORNE

Am I to understand that the right hon. Gentleman has no information on the matter, and is he not aware that this year 15,000 children will leave the schools in London?

Mr. STANLEY

We get exact figures when they leave school, and not before.
