HC Deb 01 April 1936 vol 310 cc1990-1
71. Lieut.-Commander TUFNELL

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he has during the current year examined representations of road transport interests in this country as to the burden imposed on British industry by the present level of the tax on petrol; and whether, in view of the fact that part of the present tax was imposed during the financial emergency of 1931, he will give an assurance to those concerned that this part of the tax at least will be removed as soon as practicable?

The FINANCIAL SECRETARY to the TREASURY (Mr. W. S. Morrison)

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative; with regard to the second part, I cannot anticipate my right hon. Friend's Budget statement.
