§ 29. Sir R. YOUNGasked the Under-Secretary of State for Air when the Air Commission of the Disarmament Conference last met; whether it is likely to meet again; and, if not, are any steps being taken by the responsible authority to table a plan for the supervision of civil aviation?
§ Sir P. SASSOONThe Air Commission last met on 17th March, 1933. As to the second part of the question, I would refer the hon. Member to the reply given by my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs to the hon. Member for Gower (Mr. Grenfell) on 4th February. My Noble Friend does not consider that any progress could be made at the present time in regard to the supervision of civil aviation, proposals for which were included in the Draft Convention submitted by His Majesty's Government to the Disarmament Conference.
§ 30. Mr. BENSONasked the Under-Secretary of State for Air when the Government propose to ask for a meeting of the Air Committee of the Disarmament Conference?
§ Sir P. SASSOONI would refer the hon. Member to the reply I have just given to the hon. Member for the Newton Division of Lancaster (Sir R. Young), and to that given by the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs to the hon. Member for Gower (Mr. Grenfell) on 4th February.
§ Mr. BENSONAre we to understand from that reply that the policy of the Government is still as announced by the late Secretary of State for Air in another place, namely, the preservation of the use of bombing planes?
