HC Deb 24 October 1935 vol 305 cc306-7
33. Marquess of HARTINGTON

asked the Minister of Health whether his attention has been called to the delays and inconvenience caused to the building trade by the application of the Town and Country Planning Act to London; and what action he proposes to take?

Sir K. WOOD

I am aware that complaints of delay have been made in connection with the approval of plans under the Town and Country Planning Act by the London County Council. I have gone into the matter with the chairman of the Town Planning and Building Regulations Committee of the County Council, and I am assured that every effort is now being made to facilitate the submission of proposals by builders and architects and to accelerate their consideration.

Marquess of HARTINGTON

Can the right hon. Gentleman assure the House that these efforts are likely to meet with any success whatever?

Sir K. WOOD

I hope so. I would point out that this matter has to be dealt with by another authority. I have done my best in the matter.

Mr. MANDER

Would it not be possible to bring to the attention of the Minister any cases of special difficulty?

Sir K. WOOD

I think the hon. Gentleman had better communicate with the London County Council. Perhaps he has more influence with them than I have.

Mr. CHARLES WILLIAMS

Does not the real trouble arise in consequence of the present composition of the London County Council?
