HC Deb 22 October 1935 vol 305 c8
Sir PERCY HARRIS

(by Private Notice) asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether his attention has been called to the case of a Bethnal Green man, age 23, who at Old Street Police Court was sentenced to two months' imprisonment with hard labour for stealing two loaves off a doorstep; whether he is aware that his mother is a widow, has five children at school and whether he will consider revising this harsh sentence?

The SECRETARY of STATE for the HOME DEPARTMENT (Sir John Simon)

My attention has already been called to this case. I am not yet in possession of the full facts, but I am having inquiry made.
