HC Deb 30 May 1935 vol 302 c1287
31. Mr. MANDER

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will consider the advisability of incorporating in the present Finance Bill a provision enabling an excess profit duty or some similar tax to be imposed upon aeroplane manufacturers?

The CHANCELLOR of the EXCHEQUER (Mr. Chamberlain)

I do not propose to introduce such a provision into the present Finance Bill, but I would refer the hon. Member to the passage relating to this subject in the speech of my right hon. Friend the Lord President in the House of Commons on the 22nd May last.

Mr. MANDER

Is it not proposed to take advantage of the Finance Bill to deal with this question in any manner?

Mr. MACQUISTEN

Will not my right hon. Friend apologise to these aeroplane manufacturers for not having employed them at least a couple of years ago; and is he aware that if it were not for representations such as those of the hon. Gentleman who put the question it would have been done?
