§ 22. Sir P. HURDasked the Minister of Health whether he is taking any action in respect of the refusal of certain county council medical officers to sanction the supply to schools of other than pasteurised milk; and whether his Ministry holds it to be within the competence of medical officers to exercise their discretion in a manner contrary to instructions from their councils?
Sir H. YOUNGThe answer to the first part of the question is in the negative. As regards the second part of the question, I am advised that under the arrangements made by the Milk Marketing Board for the supply of milk at reduced rates, the approval of the source and quality of the supply is a matter for the professional discretion of the Medical Officer of Health.
§ Sir P. HURDMay I take it that the Ministry does not intervene in this matter between the county council and the medical officer?
