HC Deb 22 May 1935 vol 302 c335
Mr. GOLDIE

asked the Minister of Transport whether he is aware of the danger to passengers alighting from tramcars on the Embankment at the stop situated between Temple Gardens and Tudor Street, by reason of their view of oncoming traffic being completely obscured by the presence of a shelter; and whether, with a view to obviating this danger, he will represent to the London Transport Board that they should alter this shelter, or remove the present tramcar stop to that already existing opposite Temple Gardens?

Mr. HORE-BELISHA

I will certainly ask the London Passenger Transport Board to consider the practicability of altering the shelter so as to improve the view of passengers alighting from the tramcars.

Mr. GOLDIE

Will the hon. Gentleman accept my assurance that this is one of the most dangerous spots in London and that I personally, with other hon. Members, risk my life there every day; and would be kindly send one of his inspectors with me there so that I may show him what is really wrong?

Mr. HORE-BELISHA

I have accepted my hon. and learned Friend's assurance and that is why I am making representations to the Board. I will in addition arrange for an officer of my department to accompany my hon. Friend to this point.
