HC Deb 22 May 1935 vol 302 cc348-9
58. Mr. HALL-CAINE

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether, with a view to facilitating matters for amateur dramatic and operatic societies, he will consider drawing up a list of plays and operas which are held by his Department to be wholly or partly educational, and on admission to performances of which entertainment duty is accordingly not chargeable under the Finance Act of 1916, provided that other conditions are satisfied?

Mr. COOPER

I am afraid that it is not practicable to draw up a list such as my hon. Friend suggests, but if he cares to send me details of the programme and objects of any particular society he has in mind I will enquire into the question of eligibility for exemption from entertainments duty.
