§ Mr. HORE-BELISHAI have informed the county councils of Berkshire and Buckinghamshire that I am prepared to make a grant of 60 per cent. of the cost of an approved scheme for by-passing Maidenhead but the councils have intimated that they are not prepared to proceed with the scheme on this basis. No scheme has so far been submitted to me by the responsible highway authority for by-passing Slough.
