9. Mr. DOBBIE

asked the Minister of Labour the cast of transitional payments, apart from administration, for the final three months of administration by county and borough authorities and the cost for the first three months (13 weeks) of its administration by the Unemployment Assistance Board?

Mr. STANLEY

The cost of transitional payments, apart from administration, in respect of the 13 weeks prior to the first appointed day, 7th January, 1935, was about £10,280,000, and the cost in respect of the ensuing period of 13 weeks for transitional payments and unemployment assistance allowances was about £10,760,000.

10. Mr. DOBBIE

asked the Minister of Labour the cost of administration of transitional benefit for the final three months of its administration by county and borough authorities, and the cost for the first three months (13 weeks) of its administration by the Unemployment Assistance Board?

Mr. STANLEY

The sum paid to public assistance authorities in respect of their additional administrative expenses under the transitional payments scheme was at the rate of about £780,000 per annum. It should be noted that this was only a part of the administrative cost of the scheme, which was otherwise borne on the Vote of the Ministry of Labour. Separate figures for the cost of administration of the unemployment assistance scheme for the first three months of its operation are not available.
