HC Deb 09 May 1935 vol 301 c1113
37. Mr. McENTEE

asked the First Commissioner of Works how many extra men his Department has employed for the removal of litter and rubbish from the Royal parks during the Jubilee celebrations; and whether any damage has been done to flowers, trees, and shrubs by the crowds who have visited the parks?

The FIRST COMMISSIONER of WORKS (Mr. Ormsby-Gore)

Fifty-two men have been employed in addition to 114 regular employés who were given the task of the clearance of litter in St. James's, the Green and Hyde Parks, including, of course, the Mall and Constitution Hill. I am glad to be able to report that, in spite of the vast crowds which made use of them during the Jubilee celebrations, no appreciable damage was done in any of the parks, and notably there has been no damage to flowers or flower beds.
