HC Deb 09 May 1935 vol 301 cc1113-4
5. Mr. LAWSON

asked the Minister of Labour whether he is aware that the Unemployment Assistance Board have decided that any assistance rendered by the Society of Friends to persons in receipt of unemployment allowance shall not be taken into account in assessing the persons' resources; and whether this decision is to apply to assistance from any other charitable source?

Mr. STANLEY

I am informed that the general policy of the board is to treat with every consideration voluntary payments from any charitable source which are made to persons in receipt of unemployment allowances for the purpose of meeting additional requirements.

Mr. LAWSON

As it has been agreed to exclude the contributions made by the Society of Friends, could not the same treatment be extended to other charitable organisations?

Mr. STANLEY

The hon. Member, if he will read my reply, will see that it is to the effect that other charitable organisations will be treated in the same way as the Society of Friends.
