HC Deb 08 May 1935 vol 301 cc959-60
23. Mr. HERBERT WILLIAMS

asked the Minister of Transport what steps have been taken to improve signposts throughout the country and, in particular, to provide signposts which are illuminated, either positively or by means of reflectors?

Mr. HORE-BELISHA

In 1933, my Department issued directions requiring the highway authorities to have regard to the new system of signposts recommended by the Committee on Traffic Signs, and throughout the country the old signs are being replaced. The illumination of traffic signs is generally desirable, and in the case of mandatory signs is essential. In this matter, also, considerable progress has been made.
