HC Deb 28 March 1935 vol 299 c2073
31. Sir A. WILSON

asked the Minister of Health whether a decision has yet been reached as to the action to be taken on the recommendation of the Civil Lord of the Admiralty (Cmd. 4728, paragraph 48) that the question of amalgamation of local authorities on Tyneside should receive immediate consideration?

Sir H. YOUNG

The Government have decided that the recommendation made by my hon. and gallant Friend the Civil Lord of the Admiralty with regard to the unification of local government authorities on Tyneside requires further examination, and that a small Royal Commission should be set up for this purpose. I have summoned a conference of the local authorities most closely concerned in order to discuss arrangements with them.
