HC Deb 28 March 1935 vol 299 cc2178-9

8.37 p.m.

The SOLICITOR-GENERAL

I beg to move, in page 89, line 28, at the end, to add: Provided that, until any Federal law otherwise provides, any property so vested which was immediately before the commencement of Part III of this Act liable, or treated as liable, to any such tax or impost, shall, so long as that tax or impost continues, continue to be liable, or to be treated as liable, thereto. The Clause as drafted did not make provision for the existing position, under which certain property of the kind described may now be liable to tax. It is obviously undesirable that the Constitution Act should effect any change in the status quo. The purpose of this Clause is to preserve the status quo.

Amendment agreed to.

Clause, as amended, ordered to stand part of the Bill.
