HC Deb 14 March 1935 vol 299 cc533-4
1. Mr. LYONS

asked the Minister of Labour whether he can now state the respective schemes that have been approved by the commissioners in the respective distressed areas?

3. Sir WILLIAM JENKINS

asked the Minister of Labour whether he will give details of the grants already made by the commissioners in distressed areas to whom money has been allotted and for what purpose; and the amount in each case?

The MINISTER of LABOUR (Mr. Oliver Stanley)

I would refer the hon. Members to the statement which I made in the Debate on the 4th March.

Mr. LYONS

Can the right hon. Gentleman say when he will be in a position to tell the House what schemes are actually being operated for the benefit of the unemployed in the distressed areas?

Mr. STANLEY

Questions rather similar to that were asked yesterday, and my hon. Friend the Parliamentary Secretary said that we would consider the advisability of issuing periodical progress reports on the work of the Commissioner.

Mr. LYONS

Can we have my right hon. Friend's assurance that the first of these reports can be discussed in the House?

Mr. STANLEY

It is not a matter of discussing the reports. They can only be discussed on my Estimate.
