HC Deb 14 March 1935 vol 299 c547
39. Mr. G. NICHOLSON

asked the Minister of Health what steps he is taking to secure the provision of a new workhouse at Morpeth in view of the inadequacy and bad condition of the present building?

Sir H. YOUNG

I am well aware of the inadequacy and bad condition of the Morpeth Institution, and I have pressed and will continue by every practicable means to press for its replacement. The question is however related to the more general problem of the proper classification and treatment of public assistance cases over the county, and some time is requisite to find the best solution of this.

Mr. NICHOLSON

Can the right hon. Gentleman say when this building was first condemned by the Ministry's inspectors?

Sir H. YOUNG

I should like to have notice of any question regarding dates.
